Thu. Feb. 15th, 2007: Abel Tasman
At 8h we went onto a booked day tour from the hotel to Kaiteriti (just before Abel Tasman National Park starts) via bus, and further on a water taxi - enjoying the wonderful weather of today. On the boat (Katamaran) we passed the very nice coast at the park to the SPLIT APPLE ROCK, then seeing the SEALS COLONY on TONGA island very near from the boat (same animals as at Cape Foulwind, in addition some special sea gulls I still have to look up). Then we stopped at Totaranui for 15 mins (very fancy campsite, you have to book year(s) in advance) and went back to BARK BAY, where we left the boat and walked along the coastal track to TORRENT BAY (2,5 hours through the wild bush, over a swing bridge). In Torrent bay we could walk almoust through the whole bay (low tide) and after an hour we went back on a smaller boat to Kaiteriteri, from where we were brought back to our camp via bus - it was a wonderful, very sunny day!!!
