US 11 - San Simeon to Camarillo/Ventura

Mon. March 12th, 2007: San Simeon - HW 1 - CAMARILLO.
The Silver Surf Motel (we can recommend to everyone) at San Simeon we left for the first guided tour at the HURST CASTLE - a lot of European old objects of art are to be found there, integrated into a 'dream castle' Mr. W. Hurst realized when he was 56 years old - quite impressive. From there we went 4.1 miles north to a vista point, where the elephant seals since 20 years come to stay on the beach - an impressive number of them could be seen. After that we drove south along the coast and then on HW 101 to CAMARILLO, where we again met with Bill Langford, who invited us to stay in his house also for the night before returning to the airport. And we could take the chance to go to hear the GOLDEN COAST Chorus on his last rehearsal before their concert on Friday. After all we turned to his home to see also his wife CAROL, returning home from her work. Then we discussed the planned, and realised large tour through four US states, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona. We ARE very much obliged to Bill and Carol, who helped us planning it and to the American AAA (like OeAMTC) who provided all maps and tour guides so we managed our tour without larger problems.
