US 2 - Las Vegas to Zion NP

Sat. March 3rd, 2007: Las Vegas to Zion National Park
After a breakfast at 'Dannys' we drive along HW 15 north to the boarder of Arizona near MESQUITE. Then along the boarder to Utah via St. George and Washington to Str. No. 9, and from there via HURRICANE and La Verkin to the ZION NATIONAL PARK, to get through on Street 9, a very beautiful drive along high walls and slopes of rocks in red and many colors up via many switchbacks and tunnels (from 1930 !). At the end of the top tunnel we stopped and hiked along a rocky path (1 mile steep) to a marvellous view point above the 'great arch' and after that we continued on Str. 9 to the Carmel Junction (view stop for CHECKERBOARD MESA) to Str. 89 up to the entry to BRYCE N.P. where we found a very nice 'HAROLD's INN' to get a warm room and meal for this evening, as all around was SNOW and ICE (but not on the street, fortunately).
